Queridos  amigos  e família,

It ‘s winter! No more temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, and sometimes even a sweater or socks and shoes. I think, this is great. The Mozambican children who have to go to school at 6 am, may not agree …Last month we celebrated Easter and next week we will have a baptism service. We believe that the same power that God used to raise His Son from the death, also works in and through us:

and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the death…” (Eph.1:19)

100_1497-24Queridos amigos e família,

TIMES OF TROUBLE

Last week we had a strike here in our center. Our educators and other workers didn’t want to work anymore, because of their wages.  That is understandable when you realize that prices have gone up such a lot in the last half a year. Due to international debts and dishonest use of international financial help, Mozambique is in trouble and although I am not an economic expert, I can see that the government makes the people pay in order  to resolve their problems. Also Mozambique has  to deal with the extreme high exchange rate for dollar and euro. Here in our center we decided to give a bonus every month, as long as the exchange rate stays so high. But even with a bonus, the situation stays a bit unstable. We appreciate your prayers. What touched me more than anything else that day during the strike, was the support from the children. They cooked, they cleaned and they prayed. I felt so much closer to them.

Queridos amigos e família,

Another newsletter from Mozambique. The last one was eight months ago, so I hope that you still remember who we are…  Let me tell you first something about life in Mozambique these days.  Here in Matola everything is ok, but in the middle of the country  people are hungry  because of drought.  Also the prices get up every day, because of the high exchange rate of dollar and euro. A bag of 25 kilo rice is almost doubled in price. To make things worse, people found out that the former government (and the present government as well?) stole lots and lots of money given by first world countries  for the development of Mozambique. They say that  it will take 50 years to pay it back…

So, please pray for Mozambique for more rain, and less corruption.

Heleninha in AsdQueridos amigos e família,

Heleninha  and  I are back again in Mozambique,  after a great time in Holland and in Switzerland. After these holidays, I have been in Pemba for a week for the Global Team Meetings from Iris Ministries.  Besides having a time of rest, meeting with lots of people, and being in nature, was it also good to hear God speaking about growth and “rapid”. And indeed we see suddenly things happen: Lees verder

Queridos  amigos  e família,

In Ezekiel 47 is written about the River from the Temple, living water which makes everything healthy, andabout swarms of living creatures that live wherever the river flows. … There are trees along the river. Their leaves will not wither  nor will their fruit fail Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. This is what we want more than anything else. My wish is that that river at our place will be fuller and fuller, and that the children will swim in it.

It is May now. I can wear jeans and tennis shoes with socks. And that feels so good. The heat is over and I walk really twice as fast. We have a few new children: Tatiana, 6 years, HIV +. She has a mother, but she is young and very confused. We also have Tino, 6 years old as well. His mother has not died long ago, and I have some idea about who the father is, but  I better keep that for myself :).

Short news Corrie Ockhuysen

Stefania has been operated because of her “o” legs, hopefully they are now “I” legs

Queridos amigos en família,

Like I had promised before, more often some news:

”The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end; I will keep forever my promise of peace.”

I read this verse from Isaiah 54. It is an encouragement, especially in times like these, when there is so much going on in our ministry. But the children are doing fine, they are all healthy. Stefania is happy as always, even now that she cannot walk, she moves around using her hands, and she is fast! Beto and Sarifa, the new brother and sister seem to be ok, and glad being with us. Beto started with Anti Retrovirals last week. Sarifa was tested two times for HIV, because of the sexual abuse. Both tests were negative, PtL. After a few months they’ll do one moretest . Sarifa studies in the Christian school and is proud of her uniform and schoolbag. The older boys give us troubles, since they don’t like school, and they miss out  a lot. We pray and talk with them, and hope that it will get better. Nelia came back to live with us. Mama Helena couldn’t handle the situation anymore. She is pregnant and will have her baby soon. We still don’t know if the father of the baby is willing to marry her. At the moment she is not in leadership of the church.

Queridos amigos,

Promise:

“…and I will make them dwell in safety. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of Me in their hearts, that they may not turn from Me. I will rejoice in doing them good,  and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness with all my heart and all my soul.” (Jer.32: 38-41)

Dream:
A dream that I have had for a long time is becoming a reality. Our children have begun to reach out to others with prayer, dancing, singing, and sharing food. We did it all in Jonasse, where we have a small church with lots of children that are less privileged than ours. Our kids did a good job under the supervision of Amina, who also did a very good job. And since Heleninha was leading the worship and did a drama, my “motherheart” rejoiced even more. Amina has been in Holland with us and in the Lighthouse ministry. She has come back with fire and a love for the children. She is ministering more and more to our children and in outreaches.

We have started Sunday school in Jonasse, and hopefully will start a new church in Stevel, near Boane.

Queridos amigos,

From Ngwenya lodge in Komatipoort (South Africa) these pictures. The South African church here in Matola offered me a few beautiful and restful days in this park. From my garden I saw hundreds of birds and this huge lizard, at least 1,5 meters long. With my binoculars I could see the elephants and buffalo’s from Kruger wild park. To the church:  Baie dankie (=thank you so much)

Queridos amigos e família,

Lots of things happened during the last few months. I’ll try to share some highlights with you.

Just married!
He looks like 90, she as 101 years old, but they got married last March! It was such a joyful, simple, marvellous celebration. They had dreamt about it since they were together, but they never had the money to realize it. Now the wedding was simply during the church service on Sunday morning and after that.  The whole neighbourhood came to see the couple.  So it was also a good example for others, to see that a wedding doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.

Our chuches are growing. Now we also have a church in Chinonanquila, made by grass. At the official opening service it was very full.  (almost too small already) It was another joyful happening.
